Welcome to Pontianak, the capital city of West Kalimantan
Pontianak the only town in Indonesia situated right on the equator line and divided by Kapuas River, and situated in the equator line, there’re is also well known Equator City. It is founded in 1771 Syarif Abdurrahman Al-Qadri, and now Pontianak is divided into 6 sub district.
Pontianak plays important role and strategic place for trading. Pontianak lies astride the confluence of Kapuas and Landak River. Pontianak got it name from Kuntilanak which means women apparition appears in the night and sometimes seduces men for a help and she suddenly disappear in the dark
Nowadays, the legend is not anymore popular for Pontianak grows become metropolitan of Kalimantan Barat, however, those historical and legendary places is kept. The legendary places are Kadariah palace and Grand Mosque Jami Sultan Alqadri, from where the Sultan Used to fired cannon to frighten the Kuntilanak, and introduce Islamic teaching to the Malay people, those before were Hindus.
There are some other historical buildings like Cathedral Church, post office and school those were built by Colonial before Indonesia got Independent from Dutch and Japanese colonials. The other man made and are Equator Monument, the oldest Chinese Temple in town and Balinese down town in District Sungai Raya.
Within those tourist attractions, visiting equator obelisk, the land Mark of Pontianak City and sunset in the Kapuas River are the main attraction of the CITY SIGHTSEEING, enjoy river life in the afternoon from the River.
